Over 50’s Offer Over 50 Beauty Advice

This article from the New York Times focuses on three women Over 50 and their attitudes toward aging and the cosmetics industry.

Andrea Robinson, who has worked for several leading cosmetics companies as well as fashion magazines, says not enough attention is paid to the hormonal shifts that occur in women Over 50, and the effects that has on their skin. She’s written a book, Toss the Gloss –Beauty Tips, Tricks & Truths for Women 50+, that she hopes will “unconfuse” these women who’ve been dismissed by the cosmetics industry.

Avoid These Dating Deal Breakers

A couple weeks back we featured an article about Over 50 dating deal breakers, including poor health, financial instability, and lack of attractiveness.

In this piece, dating Coach Ronnie Ann Ryan references that survey, but takes it a step further. She points out that one can never know whose health will turn bad or who will suffer a financial turnaround, but suggests that her female clients should avoid men who are already on the road to those problems. She offers tips for bumping up one’s attractiveness, both physically and spiritually, and concludes with some words of wisdom about unrealistic expectations.  Fairly basic, ladies, but worth a look…

Holding On To Anger Only Hurts You

Are you still angry at your ex?  Do you blame him or her for the divorce, and for other problems you’re currently encountering?  Do you even fantasize about getting even, or making him or her “pay?”

Writing for yourtango.com, Cindy Holbrook offers Four Ways to Keep Divorce Anger From Eating Away at You.  Her point, as you probably guessed, is that that anger is only hurting you — your ex could not care less. She says letting go of anger doesn’t mean you approve of what your ex may have done, it just means you won’t let him or her have that power over you.

If you haven’t been able to let go of those lingering feelings, definitely check out this piece.

Best Superfoods for Over 50’s

From AARP, here’s a slide show of the top 15 Superfoods for Over 50’s.  You’ve probably heard all this before, but it’s a nice presentation, including info on the good things the foods do for you, and the bad things they protect you from.  Additional good news:  both dark chocolate and coffee are on the list!

5 Essential Nutrients For Over 50’s

Here’s a solid article about five nutrients we Over 50’s need to be sure we’re consuming. It not only tells you what you need, but includes information on why you need it, and ways you can get it.

The writer, Debra Witt, adds a really interesting point at the very end:  We are so inundated with reports about new dietary discoveries that it’s important to check them out with your doctor or a registered dietitian before making any changes. She says that many insurance plans will cover a dietitian visit just because you’re Over 50; the likelihood increases if you’re being treated for a chronic condition like diabetes, high blood pressure, or high cholesterol (and how many of us are not being treated for something like that?).  So check with your provider — it could be a great opportunity to improve your health on your insurance company’s dime.

Sex Advice From AARP… Wait, What?

Most of us think of AARP as the organization that sells a Medicare supplement and offers a 15% discount at Outback Steak House.  Who knew they were also there to teach men how to help their female partners reach orgasm?

Yep, this article says that men don’t “give” women orgasms; instead, men can help create the right environment that allows the woman to have an orgasm.  And it offers six specific suggestions for doing just that.

Guys, you’ll find some good ideas to put into practice; and ladies, perhaps the article will help you identify what may be missing, and guide your partner toward meeting your needs.
